FAILING TO REGISTER.

DRIVING CATTLE ON FOOTPATH.

John Olsen, being an alien," was charged with failing to register under section 9 of the Aliens Act, 1917. Defendant said that he was unaware that he had to register. He had volunteered and been turned down. Since he had received the summons he had registered. A conviction with costs 7s was entered, the Magistrate saying that as it was the first case he .would not impose a fine. He advised the accused, who was a Norwegian, to tell his friends to register at once.

George Hollis, of Waihi, was charged on the information of Joseph Pennell, Borough ranger, with driving five head of cattle on the footpath in King Street on June 17. Defendant did not appear, and after evidence had been given by complainant a conviction and fine of 10s, with costs 9s was entered.
