A reward is offered tor the recovery of two heifers that have been lost. j Messrs Corbett and Gwilliam will dispose of a large consignment of furniture at their auction sale in Paeroa tomorrow. Railway arrangements in connection with the races at Paeroa, the Ngarua- ■ wahia- Reg.itta, and excursions to Rotorua and Te Aroha are advertised I in this issue.

Persons having in their possession musical instruments or other property belonging to* the Paeroa Brass Band are notified by advertisement to-day to I rward same to the bind room on or before Monday next. Speaking at the banquet in Paeroa on Wednesday- night, Mr M. G. Pover (Mayor of Waihi) .intimated that he does not intend to be a candidate for a. further term of office. When the Minister of Public Works was being welcomed at the bridge opening ceremony on Wednesday it was intimated that next time he visits Paeroa he will probably be welcomed by a Mayor and Borough Councillors, the statement being received with-applause.

The whole of the arrangements for the reception of the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, on the occasion of his visit to the district this week were carried out without a hitch Most of the work in connection with the visit lell to Mr R. W. Evans (the County cleik) and that eA'erylhmg worked so smoothly is in a large measure due to his efforls. An instalment of lt Journeys Through Paradise " has been cro ivded out of this issue and will appear in our issue of Monday next. The account published in a recentissue re the Komat 1 North Concert contained an error. The cred;t due for supper provided must be given to the Komata.North ladies, not to Netherton, as stated. When promising to find the whole of the money for a bridge to be erected at Tirohia, the Hon. W. Fraser intimated during his visit this week that he would not give any further money towards the Paeroa-Netherton Bridge. Seeing that the Tirohia Bridge will cost about it will be agreed that the Public Works Department is acting in a fairly generous manner. At the last meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council six months' leave of absence was granted to Mr E. L. Brenan, the assistant clerk, who has volunteered for active service and will leave for Trentham early in May. The matter of making a temporary appointment to fill Mr Brenan's place was left in the hands of the County Clerk, and we understand that Mr George Harrison of Waihi, has been apppomted. Mr Harrison was an applicant for the posi" tion at the time Mr Brenan was appointed and his was the othef name in the final ballot, - ■

A prize white Leghorn cockerel is adveitised for sale. An advertiser des.res to purchase a cottage of about four rooms in Paeroa. Gas consumers should note that Monday next, 1-51 h inst., is "last discount day," Attention is directed to a prominent announcement is this issue by Mr D. Donnelly, the well known boot and shoe merchant ol P-aeroa. On our t >uith page appears a report of ihe proceedings in connection With the opening <>f the Paeroa-Netherton Uridge, together with a view of the Jjndge and of the old ferry that formerly, served as a means of crossing the river. Mr Newman, piano , tuner for the English and Foreign Piano Company of Auckland, is at present in Paeroa. Orders may be lelt at the Gazette office by those who require his services. The Hon. W. Fraser, Minister for Public \V,oiks and Miners, accompanied by his private secretary (Mr ''McAlister) left Paeroa yesterday morning by the early train alter his official visit to open the Paeroa Netherton Bridge.

Now that the new bridge over the Waihou River has been officially opened there are several claimants for the honour of first advocating its erection. We understand that some 18 or 20 years ago Mr W. Moore, then a,resident of Netherton, represented to the # Hon. A. J. Cadman the necessity lor a crossing over the river, and although a bridge was th<Sh considered in. advance of the time?, a useful ferry crossing was provided. In connection with the opening ol the Paeroa-Netherton Bridge on Wednesi day last, the County clerk has had sou- ' vemrs of the occasion prepared from pieces of the ribbon Used in the official ceremony. These will be distributed as far as possible amongst the old residents of the district and those who took part in tlie opening ; but unfortunately, notwithstanding the definite request of the County Chairman that the ribbon should not be interfered with, some officious person or persons managed to get possession of the greater portion of the streamer, so that the number of souvenirs is much less than, rt would otherwise have been. .
