STARS TOURNAMENT.

At Te Aroba on Saturday the annual tournament for the Goldfields challenge stars was held. The holders of the stars were four Te Aroha players, skipped by Dalton, the other competing teams being as follows :—Te Aroha No. 2 (Burton, skip), Te Aroha No. 3 (Mclnman), Thames (Sykes), Waikino (Box), Paeroa (McWatters), Waihi (Meßobie), and Karangahake (Jury). The teams were divided into two sections, games of 15 heads being played, the section play resulting as follows :—

Section A.*—First round: Paeroa 18 v. Thames 5 ; Waikino. 12 v. Te Aroha No. 2 11. Second round : Paeroa 13 v. Waikino g ; Thames 12 v. Te Aroha No. 2 10. Third round : Paeroa 20 v. Te Aroha No. 2 12; Thames 14 v. Waikino 13. Section B.—First round: Te Aroha No. 3 17 v. Waihi 7 ; Karangahake 12 v. Te Aroha No. 1 10. Second round: Te Aroha No. 1 13 v. Te Aroha No. 3 g; Waihi 15 v. Karangahake 13. Third round: Karangahake 16 v. Te Aroha No. 3 15 ; Te Aroha No. i 15 v. Waihi 12. There being a tie in this section between Te Aroha No. 1 and Karangahake, these teams played seven heads to decide the winner of the section, and the Karangahake team was successful.

The final between Paeroa and Karangahake was full of interest, some remarkably fine play being shown, but the Paeroa men were too good for their opponents, and they won by 14 points to 7. The names of ihe winnersj who all played consistently right through, are Taylor, Pocock, Hamilton, and McWatters (skip).
