HIKUTAIA BAZAAR.

A DECIDED.SUCCESS.

For months past the members oi the Ladies Guild in connection with the Anglican Church, assisted by friends, have been working with the end in view ot holding a bazaar. In this their success has more than exceeded their most sanguine expectations, and on Wednesday and Thursday a monster bazaar and sale of work was held at Hikutaia. The hall, which had been nicely decorated, looked very pretty, and an extra charm was added by the prettily decorated stalls. The arrangements tor the bazaar were very complete indeed, and judging by the patronage that was given to »t a very handsome amount will be added to the building fund. The guild, headed by Mrs Johnstone as president and Miss A. j Hanlen as honorary secretary, deserve great praise for the efficient manner everything was carried out and the responsible work undertaken. The bazaar was opened by Mr R. W. Bag- : nail, ot Turua, who in a very appropriate speech declared the bazaar opened for business. The vicar, the Rev. J. ?. Cowie, also addressed the gathering. One great feature in the evening's amusement was Mr Durban's orchestra, wliich played a number of selections. Space does not allow us to minutely describe all the lovely things that had been made by the ladies' guild, and those donated to the bazaar, but it is sufficient to say that tbey were described by a visitor as being one of the best .collections ever seen at a bazaar or sale of work. Those responsible for the various stalls were as follows : — Plain stall, Mesdames Hanlen, Green, Tocker, McConnell, and Durbin; fancy stall, Mesdames Cato, C. Avery, and R. Avery; miscellaneous, Mesdames Gubb and Hows, and Miss A. Green ; sweet stall, Misses Bell, A. and C. Alley, and Walters; book stall, Mesdames Alley and Wyatt; soft drinks and ice cream, Mesdames Senior and S. Hanlen, and Miss Begg; afternoon tea, Mrs Shaw, assisted by a large number of Japanese girls ; Christmas tree, Misses R. Murphy and H. Green ; brand tub dips, Misses Rose Murphy and Alma Alley.
