KOMATA SCHOOL CONCERT.

AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION

The annual concert in aid of funds for school prizes was held in the Kornata hall on Friday evening, 18th inst." The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, the luxuriant greenness of the gracelul nikau, interspersed with white flowers had the effect of transforming the building into a veritable bowery. At eight o'clock the hall was crowded with both old and young, the latter turning out 'en masse,' and evincing

that exuberance of spirits, which is so natural to them, in an event of this kind. Mr H. A. Sommerville, chairman of the school committee, presided. The programme which was both long and varied, would have done credit to places

carrying a much larger population. The items by the school children were particularly well presented, and the instructors— Mis's Ganley and Mrs McMiken spared no pains in making their pupils proficient in their various renderings of songs and dances. Further-, more, the proceedings were given additional 'eclat' by the fact that Mr Karl Atkinson, basso, and Mrs Atkin-

son, contralto, were present, and contributed items in the programme. Mr Atkinson was heard to advantage in his rendering of "The Yeoman's Wedding," and uln Happy Moments," both items being rendered in a finished style.

The following programme was gone through : — Overture, " The Racecourse," Mrs Ryan and Miss Kelly; song, "Land of our Birth," Mr W.
