Football Dance.

The social held in the Criterion Theatre last evening, in connection with the Paeroa Rugby Union, was well attended, despite the stormy weather and the very muddy condition of the roads. The interior of the building had been tastefully decorated for the occasion, and looked rea^.y well. Suspended from the roof was a football, wh'le the Union's banneu and line flags were fixed in front of the dress circle. Flags were hung in rows from the ceiling, and were arranged round the walls. Greenery and flowers were also much in evidence, and gave, the building a bright appearaace. Special attention had been paid to the floor, and the efforts of the committee were rewarded by obtaining an excellent surface for dancing. The dust nuisance, usually so prevalent, was happily altogether absent The music was supplied by the local string bandMr Mettam (cornet), Miss Pugh. (violin), and Miss Uapili (piano), and was aH that coi^d be desired. The supper provided was an excellent one, and, need'ess to say, was appreciated by those present; Mr W. D. Nicholas made an excellent M.C. During the evening, a euchre tournament was held, the prizes being won by Miss Shroff and W. Sorrensen. Mr H. 0. Searle had charge of the * tournament. The prizes were presented to the winners byMrH. Poland (President of the Union). The members of the com-mittee—-which was a large one—are to be congratulated on the success of the function, and wlr'le it is difficult to individualise any for special m ention, a meed of praise is certainly due to the chairman (Mr Macgregor) and the secretary (Mr Bush),
