FOR WHOM SHALL WE VOTE?

(To the Editor.) Siu,--Wednesday the 6th inst is the day you have to decide which of the six candidates voii will give the honov of representing you. The question is this : Should an Oppositionist or an Independent man be selected, would he be aolo. to secure any of the pickings for this electorate ? Certainly not —unless the present Government are not returned, of which there is little doubt. Then I think wo must as sensible voters leave Mr Mo3s alone. Mr Moss is the only candidate who is not an out and out supporter of the Government: the others all are. This reduces the contestants to five. Mr Palmer has been selected by the Government as tM*eir pet, presumably because he is obedient to his superiors. On the other side, he is not a resident. Bis interests in the place eve nil, and he is rejected from Waitemate and Eden surely for some good reason or another. If he is not considered by those , two electorates as a proper person to represent them, why surely we must be easily pleased if we accept him. Mr McCullough is a Thames man, but what interest has he in us. Well, quite as much as the others. Unfortunately, he is not a local man. Mr Deeble is a very old Thames man, but he, I am afraid, in his antipathy to hotels and alcohol generally, would, if elected, do a great deal more harm than good, Mr M. Stewart is a very plain, straightforward man apparently, but a mere baby at the game. I inn afraid his chance is very small—may be better next time. Last, but not least, we come to Mr L. De Bakker, a young man untried; staunch Government supporter, but unfortunately he has allowed himself to drift down a lot, Clever he undoubtedly is, and if elected, would no doubt feel the responsibility of his position and become a good representative. An Oppositionist is of no use to the electorate. Let us then go to the poll all of one mind and go straight for a Government supporter.—l am etc., Liberal.
