OUR CANDIDATES.

Sir, -Be the Star's very flattering reference to Mr J. Palmer in its issue of 28th ult. Why is this ? Is it because J.P. is such a paragon of perfection, and so much above all others, or is it because he is such an obedient little kid that he is forced down our throats on all sides ? The latter, I should say is the case. Why, what in the name of fortune did he do when, in the House ? Got a poor man the sack for not saluting him! VThat else? Did as he was told without question! Truly, two highly laudable things. J.P. can't get elected; for Waitemata or Eden, and, forsooth, he must be shoved in, eh! at any price for one of, if not the most important electorate in the-colony. Are the electors t© have no say in the matter ? Well, I should smile. This sort of fullsome praise by the Star is unworthy of such a publication. Wonder how much that sketch went to fill the already full pocket -of H.B. ?' Now, Sir, I should like to -know whose money is supporting the good little boy. Methinks a good*deal belongs to the electors themselves. Sir, Ido hope the free and independent will show their appreciation of all this rotten endeavour to put a man in to represent them by putting him where he should be-—at the bottom of .the poll. Electors, show -your manhood by electing a local man —one who lives among you, and not one who, if elected, will leave per steamer, and say: "What flats. My £6 is secured for three years, anyhow.
