Boy Swept Out To Sea
danger spots for bathers A boy aged 10 years had a narrow escape from drowning at the St. Kilda beach yesterday afternoon. He was bathing in shallow water opposite the main entrance to the beach when he was caught in a dangerous rip and swept out to sea. Fortunately he was carried over a deep hole and was able to gain a precarious footing on a sand boy’s plight was noticed by a iunior member of the St. Kilda Life Saving Club, A. McNaughton, who swam out and brought him to shore. There is no daily patrol on the beacn at present, and it was fortunate that McNaughton, who is only 15 years of age, was on the beach. Members of the St. Kilda Club told the Daily Times last night that there are dangerous' spots on the beach at present, and bathers should not take any risks. They should not bathe opposite the entrance to the beach, and should watch for deep holes and dangerous rips. A daily patrol will be instituted on Monday, and the beach will be nagged.
