Invited To Centennial Games
An invitation for the brilliant 15-year-old New Zealand junior champion. John Jarvis, to compete at the Canterbury Centennial Games was approved by the Otago Swimming Centre at its meeting last night. It was decided to hold a carnival on January 18 prior to the departure of the Otago teams for the New Zealand junior championships at Ashburton and the senior national championships at Timaru. A programme of scratch races will be arranged and handicap events included on the programme, while special record attempts will also be held. The selectors were asked'to announce the teams for the championship meetings next week, the dates for the junior championships at Ashburton being January 31. February 1,2 and 3, and for the senior championships at Timaru February 7. 8. • and 10. The programme for the Balclutha Club's carnival next Saturday was approved.
