“END KOREAN CAMPAIGN”
Russian Demand On Britain And America
New Zealand Press Association —Copyright Rec. 10.15 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 11. Russia today called on the United States and Great Britain to demonstrate their desire for peace by ending their military campaign in Korea and stopping “ aggressive action against China. ’ Pravda, the official organ of the Communist Party, in an editorial broadcast by Moscow radio, said: “ If President Truman and Mr Attlee were really desirous of a peaceful solution to the Korean question and other problems of international importance, they at least could now put an end to their military campaign in Korea and cease aggressive action, against China.”
The newspaper continued that it was obvious that President Truman and Mr Attlee were unwilling to end the Korean war. “The Truman-Attlee communique does not testify to the fact that the United States Government wants to put an end to the aggression it undertook in Korea. On the contrary, President Truman and Mr Attlee have come to an agreement to continue this hopeless adventure. The whole idea of the Truman-Attlee conference was to bring about a further increase of the British and American armed forces and armament production. All this is extremely reminiscent of what was done by the Governments of the aggressive States preparing for the Second World War.’ Pravda said the Truman-Attlee communiaue’s expressed desire for a peaceful solution to the existing problems “ remains, as always, words on paper. All this is merely a miserable effort to distract attention from their adventurist military plans, and. in particular, from Anglo-American aggression in Korea and against Formosa. etc. Everyone knows that the Chinese People’s Republic has done no harm to the United States and has never thought of nor is thinking now of attacking American or British territory. “ In spite of this, American armed forces have seized the Chinese island of Formosa. American planes are constantly violating the frontiers of China, and the United States Government is preparing Chiang Kai-shek’s band for a new attack on the Chinese Republic.” Pravda noted that the communique “ could not. be silent on the fact that the two Governments differ concerning Chinese representation in the United Nations.” The paper added that President Truman had used the conference for increasing pressure on Britain.
