TAX ON WOOL CHEQUES
Growers Fail To Obtain Restraining Order CASE IN AUSTRALIA NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 11. Two Victorian woolgrowers unsuccessfully sought a High Cof.rt order today restraining the Commonwealth from- collecting income tax in advance from wool cheques as an antiinflationary measure. Under three Acts which became law early this month, brokers will have to pay onefifth of every cheque to the Commonwealth. Today, the Chief Justice said he would “ want some pretty solid argument” before he would prevent any application of the legislation on the ground that somebody tnought it was invalid. He made no order and the application was adjourned.
