YEAR ENDED
Christian Brothers' . School ADDRESS BY BISHOP “It is a matter for regret that in a Christian country parents who wish to have their children brought up as Christians are not able to get what is due to them,” said the Coadjutor-bishop of Dunedin, Dr J. P. Kavanagh, at the annual prize-giving of the Christian Brothers’ High School in the Concert Chamber last night. “ There is much said about the evils of the day and the need to meet Communism, yet parents,, both Roman Catholic and non-Catholic. who think that religion, is something more than a matter of taste are unjustly penalised
under the present allocation of taxes.” He urged parents to support the work of the school by seeing that their children retained their early beliefs. After the rector, the Rev. Brother J. B. Lynch, had read the report for the year, the bishop presented the prizes. Earlier in the evening the pupils presented a concert consisting of instrumental, vocal and humorous items. A feature of the programme was the choir's singing of Mozart’s “Ave Verum ” and the, “Holy City ” (Adams) with full orchestral accompaniment.
