HIGH APPOINTMENT
Former Otagc Officer PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. The appointment to the Air Board of Group Captain G. Carter, 0.8. E., A.F.R.Ae.S., formerly of Dunedin, as Member for Supply, is announced by RNZAF headquarters. He succeeds Air Commodore C. E Kay, C.8.E., D.F.C., who was recently appointed Air Officer Commanding RNZAF headquarters, London. Group Captain Carter, who is 53, has been Assistant Air Member for Supply for the past five years. Born at Kaitangata and educated at Balclutha and Dunedin, Group Captain Carter joined the Royal Flying Corps as a cadet in 1918. He became a member of the New Zealand Territorial Air Force in 1923, and was the first engineer officer of the Wellington Territorial Squadron. He was mobilised in the RNZAF in September, 1939, on the outbreak of war. He has been closely associated with supply matters since 1941. when he was seconded from Air Force Headquarters to become Munitions Controller, occupying this post until November, 1943. He was Assistant Air Member for Supply until June, 1945, when he went overseas, and he returned to this post at the end of the war.
