I. GEDDES AGAIN

Run Of High Scores ALBION’S STRONG HOLD I. Geddes, Albion’s promising young opening batsman, for the second week in succession, dominated the scoring in a further round of matches commenced on Saturday. Geddes contributed 178 of his team’s total of 387 before going out bowled by J. Spear. His score included 19 4’s and one 5. Last Saturday Geddes compiled 100 not out. Due largely to Geddes and the opening batsmen, Albion was able to compile the largest club score made by a team this season. A second-wicket stand between Berry and Geddes added 132 runs, while the third-wicket partnership of Geddes and Sandri added 108. Albion, with only four wickets down for 334, appeared as if It would achieve a marathon total, but the remaining six wickets fell for only 53 runs. The wickets were shared by Maddigan, McDiarmid and Cutler. Union, left with only a few minutes to bat, sent in its tail-enders, with the result that two wickets fell cheaply for only 4 runs. The scoreboard read two wickets for no runs at one stage. Waitaki, in its match against Oamaru, batted slowly all afternoon for its tally of 278 for nine wickets. Oamaru bowled 88 overs while Waitaki was making its score. M. Pollock, one of Waitaki’s openers, batted well, but was unluckily dismissed for 98, bowled by Wilson. Pollock’s was the eighth wicket to fall when the score was 268. Glendining 45, and Carleton 34, also batted well. The wickets were well shared by all of Oamaru’s 10 bowlers. The one-day senior B match between St. Patrick’s and Waitaki resulted in a draw. Waitaki batted first to compile 217. Airey was top-scorer with 58 (retired) and Jones retired at 28. St. Patrick’s total reached 184 for eight wickets before stumps were drawn. Gray batted well for 52 not out, while A. Collins made 29. R. Ahern and S. Lindsay shared the Waitaki wickets, while the St. Patrick’s wickets were well distributed among the eight Waitaki bowlers. Scores - ALBION V. UNION Albion First Innings
