Presbytery Of Central Otago THE REV. A. W. WILLOUGHBY Special to the Daily Times ALEXANDRA. Dec. 10. Tire Rev. A. W. Willoughby, of Omakau, was elected and installed as moderator of the Central Otago Presbytery for the ensuing year at the last Presbytery meeting. He will convene the opening meeting of the Presbytery for 1951, in March, when the annual Presbytery communion service will be held. Committees for 1951 were appointed, the conveners being: Life and Work, Rev. I. B. Wilson; Finance, Rev. R. S. Keenan; Youth, Rev. J. C. Doig; New Life Movement, Rev. G. D'allard; Temperance, Rev. A. M. Kirkwood; Publicity, Rev. G. Dallard; Statistics, Rev. A. W. Willoughby; Bills and Business, Rev. R. S. Keenan; Missions, Mr J. D. Smith; PSSA, Rev. D. Heggie. Missions in China Tentative plans for the celebration of the jubilee of the establishment of New Zealand Presbyterian missionary activity in South China were discussed at the meeting of the Presbytery. "It was 50 years ago next year that the Rev. G. McNeur (now Dr McNeur) left these shores to set up a mission in the Canton villages,” said the Rev. G. Dallard, in moving that a suitable Presbytery celebration be held. “Mr McNeur commenced his work in Central Otago, spending a year with the Rev. Alexander Don in the goldfields of Central Otago, working among the Chinese, learning thelanguage, and making friends, so that he went to the new area with an effective preparation.” Sunday School In the Youth Committee report presented to the meeting, special mention was made of the examinations recently held in three of the Sunday schools, under the auspices of the Assembly Youth Office. Four pupils were awarded certificates of merit and book prizes from the Presbytery. They were: Christine Brown (Queenstown), 92 per cent. Scripture, 100 per cent, memory work; James Ernest Morris (Wanaka), 91 per cent, and 100 per cent.; David Nicolson (Alexandra), -84 per cent, and 96 per cent.; Stewart Clifford Ironside (Wanaka). 77 per cent, and 96 per cent. Additions to Church Plans for the completion of St. Ninian’s Church, Hawea Flat, were approved by the meeting. A vestry is to be added to the existing building, to incorporate cloakroom and kitchen facilities for church and Sunday school functions. Mr J. Haugh, explaining the additions, stated that it had been hoped at the time the church was erected to complete the present plans, but that had proved beyond the financial resources of the congregation, The additional expense could now be met.
