CHANCES OF SURVIVAL
How b.ig can a baby goldfish be before it is put into a pond with its cannibalistic elders and expect not to be eaten? There is no hard and fast rule, states the Dominion Aquarist and Pondkeeper, official organ of the Dominion Aquarium and Pond Society, but a guiding principle is to reckon in terms of thirds. A fish a certain length is a potential danger to one only .one-third that length, and its appetite for small fish grows at an ever-increasing rate. Round-bodied, heavily-finned goldfish are less given to cannibalism than are single-tails.
