An improvement in the waterfront labour position was brought about yesterday with the departure of three ships for other ports. Two ships, however, were still idle for most of the day The Viti arrived late last night from Auckland. Most of the ships in port today should have labour, as there are two projected departures against one arrival. On her maiden voyage from England the Union Company freighter Kawaroa is expected to arrive at Port Chalmers between 9 and 10 a.m., and will go straight into the Otago dock.
