EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
Fire In Roslyn Home YOUNG BOY GIVES ALARM Damage estimated at about £IOOO, including more than £IOO worth of almost new carpeting, was caused to the home of Mr and Mrs S. J. Johns, 13 Gamma street, Roslyn, when fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning. The alarm was given by Mr and Mrs Johns’s four-year-old son, Ronald, who woke about 5.30 and went to his parents’ room. When they were awakened they realised that the house was on fire and Mrs Johns tok her five young children out. Mr Johns went to the nearest telephone and rang for the fire brigade. Machines from the Central and Roslyn stations soon arrived and it was not long before the blaze was quelled. One bedroom was completely gutted and smoke and water caused considerable damage to other rooms. Many of the family’s possessions were completely destroyed. An hour after the brigade had left it had to be called back, because fire had broken out again. This was stopped in a very short time. The cause of the fire is not known.
