LACK OF GRATITUDE

Failure To' Help America , In Korea MR CALWELL’S ATTACK NZPA—Copyright - s LONDON, July 23. Mr A. A. Calwell, former Australian " Minister of Immigration, attacked members of the United Nations who have not contributed ground troops to Korea, in a statement issued to tha British United Press in Melbourne. Mr Calwell said: “If I were an American I believe I would feel mad, and bitter, too, at the unanimous failure of all other member States of the United Nations, most of whom are living on the charity of the American taxpayer, not to send ground forces to help the United States Army in Korea. “ I think I would be demanding that the State Department line up countries receiving Marshall aid and all others hoping to receive it, and tell them that, while their resolutions of support make interesting reading, America is not going to do all the paying and all the dying to save the rest of the world from Communist domination. “So far as Australia is concerned General MacArthur got everything he asked for in men, material, and other supplies from the late John Curtin, Labour war-time Prime Minister, but I am not so sure that he will get much support from the present Australian Government I think the world is more than ungrateful in the present crisis.”
