BIRTH OF TRIPLETS
German Brood Mare
The Sports Courier, devoted to breeding and racing, and published at Cologne, Germany, reported the birth of triplet to a mare in the Gradlitz Stud. The mare is Graefin Isabella, a daughter of Graf Isolani, and the foals are by Airolo, a son of Teddy. The two foals born alive were colts; the third had died before birth, and the sex could not be determined. The German paper cites two other known cases of triple births —the mares Scintilla in England in 1909, and Littleton Eisenbraut, in Germany, in 1910. It also notes that the English mare. Swag, bred to Sir Hugo, gave birth to quadruplets, all of which died, “ of course ’’ Twins, remarks the paper, are generally the sign of a good and prolific mare. Bayardo, Donovan, Bend Or and others, and that the unbeaten Kincsem once foaled twins.
