FORM OF CANDIDATES

Bon Chale Is Hurdles Prospect

A field of 15 Is carded for the Hadlow Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles, and it includes some recruits to the jumping game. The top-weight. Bon Chale, has been second in his last two races, the more recent of them being in the Temuka Hurdles at Geraldine, where he was beaten by ,Alsvider. He does not look overweighted with 9.13. Sal's Pal had his last race at Invercargill in April, when he finished a good second to Winger. Springwater won the Pukaki Hurdles at Washdyke this month, beating Bon Chale by a neck. Bon Chale comes in on 31b better terms. Night Ruler did not jump well at Geraldine, but prior to that he had run fourth to Springwater, Bon Chale, and. Alsvider, at Washdyke. Two recruits in Pageant and Phillip Laing will be under the handicap of lack of experience, and those selected are Bon Chale, Sal’s Pal, and Springwater. SNOWCLAD’S CHANCES Several of the runners in the GlenIti Stakes have no background of form, and Snowclad, who has been placed in his last two starts, is entitled to be one of the favourites. Pyramus' was third to Concealment and Gold Mine over six furlongs at Wingatui last month and Winslow Boy was placed in a division of the Novice Stakes at Ashburton. Sharman is a very likely., improver and she may follow Snowclad and Winslow Boy in the order of favouritism. PRANG A FORM HORSE Prang’s easy win at Waimate last Saturday will find him in favour for the Hunt Cup Steeples, the field for which is not strong. Sparkling Lad was second to Prang last Saturday and, Sunny Course filled a similar placing hehind Jolyon. Quadrille finished fifth in the Craigmore Steeples at Washdyke and should be an improved horse by that race. Comeaway looks the most likely of the others, but Prang, Sparkling Lad and Quadrille are selected. THE FIRST LEG Royal Tan has not been started since the Trentham meeting in January and Coral Arc had his last race at Riccafton ini -December. Neither of them is likely to be in favour for the Claremont Handicap, the first leg of the double. Saieda has had a win and two third placings in his last four starts and his performance at Geraldine indicated that he is close to winning form again. Dark Chief lost his chance at Geraldine by beginning slowly, but he came home very solidly for fourth. Clyde Bridge was prominent to the straight in the principal event at Geraldine and should appreciate the shorter distance tomorrow. Duvaals. Sir Abbot, Winning Cheer, and Indian Mom may appeal to place bettors, but Saieda, Dark Chief, and Clyde Bridge should be prominent at the finish. MIRO CHABO SELECTED The form horse for the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase is Miro Chabo, an easy winner at Wingatui and Oamaru. He has more speed than the majority of those opposed to him and in his recent races has taken the lead early. Relampago was prominent in the Craigmore Steeples, at Washdyke until he fell with a round to go, but he was being gathered in then. Jolyon made a good showing to win at Waimate, but Whakawhatea was a disappointment and raced below the form he showed at Washdyke, where he was second to Flying Hawk. Turora is not yet proficient at his fences and was a poor fifth in the Mariri Steeples at Trentham, in which Young Bob was fourth. Irish Note has no recent form and has to be taken on trust, so Miro Chabo, Jolyon and Young Bob was the favourites BLUE SKY’S PROSPECTS Blue Sky was an impressive winner at Washdyke and appears to hold bright prospects in the Levels Hack Handicap, in which he will meet other recent winners in Lilli Marlene, who was successful at Geraldine, and Penze. a winner at Waimate last Saturday. Happy Hunter has a number of placings against his name this season and finished solidly for second at Waimate. The Lum was fourth at Waimate, and What Next has been placed in her last four races. Blue Sky, What Next and Happy Hunter are selected. CURRENCY DUE FOR WIN With placings in his last two races. Currency is due for a win and he will have his change in the Washdyke Trot tomorrow. Another likely sort is Major Gaillard, who has also been placed in his two most recent races. Others with recent placings are Alluck. Bay Jack, La Conga and Keretaki. ’Currency, Major Gaillard ard La Conga may be the hardest to beat. TOP-WEIGHT FANCIED When Cogitation won at Washdyke earlier this month he carried 9.3 and he won easily and going away. He has 81b more to carry tomorrow, but even with that ne will be one of the bestbacked runners. Penny Pie was a winner at Waimate, and Love Letter finished strongly for third at Geraldine. Chasemint has not been out of a place in his last four starts and is due for a winning turn. Pacific Edition and Weldrest may be the best of the others, but most of the money will probably be on Cogitation. Chasemint and Love Letter.
