ANDERSON’S BAY

Inlet Reclamation

HARBOUR BOARD DISCUSSION

Statements that if any substantiation of the claim that the Marine Department had agreed to the full reclamation of the Anderson’s Bay Inlet were possible, it should be produced by the Anderson’s Bay Ratepayers and Householders’ Association, were made by speakers at the monthly meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night. The acting chairman, Mr C. O. Knewstubb, pointed out that the Marine Department had denied, in a statement to the Daily Times that it had given approval to the reclamation of the inlet. In a letter to the board, the department had suggested that the person who made a statement at a public meeting that the department had given approval should now produce evidence to this effect. “ Where there is smoke, there is fire,” said Mr T. Anderson. ‘ There may be something behind this. It has even been mentioned at a meeting oi the City Council.” , Mr J. G. Henderson; It is up to the person who made the statement to substantiate _i thg g tatejne nt was made at a public meeting, and that the reclamation of the Anderson s Bay Inlet was one of the three schemes chosen for further investigation as a war memorial for Dunedin,” said Mr A. Mcßae. Mr Knewstubb; It was an irresponsible statement.
