CLIMAX TO TOUR

President Truman Addresses Rally In Chicago \ WASHINGTON, Rec. 7.50 p.m. May 15. In the climax to his 6000-mile tour, President Truman in Chicago tonight declared that he would keep on fighting for his “ Fair Deal ” programme. A quarter of a million people cheered the President as he led a parade of 6000 National Guard troops and 30 bands to the Chicago Stadium. Fireworks exploded overhead, while thousands of coloured balloons soared into the air. President Truman’s speech dealt mainly with Government achievements over the last two years, and hopes for the future. The President said: “We will carry on the fight for international co-operation and against the return of isolationism.” Other objectives would be the repeal of the Taft-Hartley Labour Act, improved social security, Federal aid to education, middle income housing, health insurance, better farm price supports and more liberal civil rights laws. President Truman, obviously buoyed by the results of his 10-day, 55-speech trip, said he wished “ a lot of doubting Thomases ” could have accompanied him. “That would have convinced them, if anything could, that this country has a wonderful future ”
