Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON. May 16. Pierre, winner of the Great Easter and Waltham Handicaps and runner-up to Ballochmyle in the Tasman Stakes at the last Canterbury meeting, is to contest the Cornwall Handicap on the first day of the Auckland winter meeting. Pierre has been weighted at 9.1, and will be ridden by K. Nuttall. who was successful on him in the Waltham Handicap. Pierre will leave for Ellerslie in charge of his trainer, W. G. Hawthorne, next week. He has freshened up and done well since he raced at Riccarton and should be at his peak for his Auckland engagements. His latest successes have been over seven furlongs, but he has won over the Cornwall Handicap distance of one mile and a-quarter.
