In 1949 the M.LC. paid £1,194,984 in death benefits and £1,972,031 to living policyholders, and since it was founded it has paid £63,221,410 to policyholders and beneficiaries. The New Business written in the Ordinary Branch in 1949 amounted to £23,074,732, and in the Industrial Branch £8,639,426. The total business in force now stands at £218,086,016, a substantial gain during the year, the number of policies in force being 1,21 8,538.
