FAT CATTLE CHEAPER

Lorneville Stock Sale PA INVERCARGILL. May 16. Small supplies of fat stock were for T ward at the weekly Lorneville stock sale today. Prices for fat sheen improved slightly, but fat cattle were cheaper and the demand for these was restricted. Store cattle and store sheen sold at values that were firm on recent rates. The store sheep yarding was small. Fat Sh°ep.—Medium-weight wethers of fair nualitv made up most of the small yarding of fat sheep and prices improved on those ruling at last week’s sale. Heavy-weight aged wethers sold to 65s fid; best quality two-tooth wethers, 62s to 64s 6d: medium-weights, 58s to 61s; lighter sorts, 52s to 555; and unfinished, 47s to 495. Good butchers’ ewes sold at from 48s to 50s 9d; handy-weights, 42s to 44s 6d.

Good steer calves made from £7 5s Id to £8 2s 6d: mediums, £5 to £6: smaller, £4 to £5; indifferently bred sorts, £2 10s to £3 10s. Best heifer calves made up to £6 10s; other lots selling, at from £4 to £5; and culls down to £1 10s. Best-conditioned two-and-a-half-vear-old cattle made from £l4 to £15,55; other good lots selling at from £ll 10s to £l2 17s 6d. Best 18-month steers sold to £ll 2s 6d- others selling at from £6 10s to £B. Best-conditioned emetv cows sold to £lO 10s; mediums, £7 to £8 10s; light-conditioned sorts sold at from £3 to £4 10s.
