FOOTBALL AND LIQUOR

Sir,—l feel sure that ,most of the thousands who patronise Carisbrook wiil heartily, endorse.-.the, decision of: the Rugby tThl on to take drastic action (and let it be drastic) to stamp out what has been a blot on the fair name of Carisbrook far too long. These beer guzzlers, especially the suitcase cliques, are a pest and an annoyance to those unfortunate people hemmed in next to them.

I recall in my playing days many years ago my home city, Norwich, was cursed with the same problem, and with brawling, fighting and referee threatening. If I remember rightly, the method adopted was two policemen to each queue. Any person with bulky packages was asked to open them for inspection. If they refused, they were ordered out of the line. After a week or so. one officer was sufficient. In those days there were no cars or buses, and women did not attend football games. Whisky and kindred spirits were 3s 6d a bottle.—l am, etc., H. E. A.
