FIRST TEST MATCH

Governor-Genera! To Attend BRITISH TEAM’S DUNEDIN VISIT The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., and Lady Freyberg will attend the first Test between New Zealand and the British Isles team at Carisbrook on' May 27. This information was received by the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union at its meeting last night. Their. Excellencies will arrive in Dunedin by air on the morning of May 27 and will leave for Wellington by air on the following morning.

The civic reception to the British Isles team will be held in the Main Town Hall at 11 a.m. on Friday, and not in the Concert Chamber, in which a horticultural show is to be held. The Otago team has accepted an invitation to occupy seats on the platform, and the president of the Otago Rugby Football Union, Mr H. G. Munro, will be associated with the Mayor, Sir Donald Cameron, in the welcome to the visitors. An invitation was accepted for the Otago team to be present at the opening community sing in the St. James Theatre on Friday, the British Isles team already having accepted an invitation to attend. The Mayor, Sir Donald Cameron, will officially open the sing. Mr J. W. Hayes was appointed to act as liaison officer with the British team during its stay in Dunedin. The union decided to invite the Dunedin Ladies’ Band to be present at the welcome to the British Isles team at the Railway Station on Thursday at 4.15 p m. It was decided that the test match should start at 2.30. The residents of Otakou have invited members of the All Black and British teams, as well as members of the Otago Rugby Football Union, to spend the afternoon of Sunday, May 28, at Tamatea Hall at Otakou. The president. Mr H. G. Munro, expressed appreciation of the invitation, which is to be referred to the manager of the British team, Surgeon-captain L. B. Osborne, on his arrival in Dunedin.
