“FACE-SAVING” TREATY
Japanese Premier’s Demand NZPA—Reuter—Copyright Rec. 7 p.m. TOKIO, May 14. The Japanese Prime Minister, Mr Shigeru Yoshida, today issued a warning that if the Japanese peace treaty destroyed the Japanese people’s “face” peace would not last long, reports the Jiji news agency. Mr Yoshida predicted that there would be no war between the United States and Russia. He said the United States would never try to infringe Japan’s independence, as the Americans were aware of the Japanese “ strong sense of self-respect.”
