EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY

Well-known Alexandra Citizen RECORD OF SERVICE Special to the Daily Times ALEXANDRA. May 14. An outstanding record of service to the community is held by Mr W. Bringans, who celebrated his eightieth birthday here on Saturday. Mr Bringans, who was entertained by a large gathering of friends and relatives, has been Mayor of the Alexandra Borough Council, chairman of the Central Otago Power Board, and Alexandra representative on the Vincent Hospital Board and Waipiata Sanatorium Committee. In addition he was the Alexandra bandmaster for more than 40 years and choirmaster of the Alexandra Presbyterian Church for nearly half a century. An “ at home ” was arranged in his honour by his family on Saturday afternoon, when among the guests present were the Mayor, Mr G. H. Fox, and the Deputy Mayor, Mr W. Hewitt. The Mayor said that he was delighted to see Mr Bringans looking so fit and well, and he hoped that he would continue in good health for many years to come. The Deputy Mayor, on behalf of those present, made a presentation to Mr Bringans. Other speakers were Messrs E. Russell, A. E. Marslin and D. W. H. Moorhead.
