WARD BEATS LOCKE

The “ master ” golfer of 1949, Charles Ward, gave British professional golf a great boost when he beat Locke and Pickworth in the 36 holes play-off in the Daily Mail £2500 tournament at Walton Heath today. Ward deserved his magnificent win. He stuck to the task in baking sunshine amid rushing galleries with fighting determination. The final scores were Ward 146, Locke 149, Pickworth 157.
