A United States Navy Viking rocket reached a height of 106.4 miles over the Pacific yesterday, thus setting a new altitude record for Americanbuilt rockets. The Viking was fired from the deck of the navy’s experimental guided-missile ship, Norton Sound, in the vicinity of Christmas Island.
