Rugby At Queenstown Special to the Daily Times QUEENSTOWN, May 14. Queenstown defeated Alexandra in a Rugby football match at Queenstown yesterday by 9 points to 6, and thoroughly deserved its win. Although the Queenstown pack gave away much weight in the scrums, it repeatedly won the set scrums and held its own in the line outs until the later stages of the game, when W. Lunn showed up in this department for Alexandra. Alexandra forwards appeared to be sluggish and the lighter Queenstown pack often surged through from rucks. The backs of both teams tried to open up play and J. Anderson for Queenstown, who plaved at second five-eighth, and later shifted into first five-eighth, when G. Nelson had to retire through an injury, was the best back on the ground. His" handling and line-kicking were a feature of the game and he also made two brilliant breaks, and kicked a dropped goal. J. Spence, the 'Queenstown halfback, was untiring in his work and sent out well-directed passes. The Queenstown tackling and positional play was much improved since it played Matakanui. Wilson, half-back, for Alexandra, played a sound game. In a pack that played as a unit, R. Paul and H. Hemsman were outstanding fo r Queenstown. Queenstown’s points were made up by a try by I. Balch and a goal from a penalty and a dropped goal by J. Anderson. Wilson kicked two goals from penalties for Alexandra. Mr F Foote was the referee. GOLF A Stableford Bogey Competition was played on the Wakatipu golf links on Sunday. The winners were E. A. Vercoe and J. Spence, who tied with 38 points. Other good cards were recorded by: G. Lonsdale 35. T. Muir 34, L. G. Lynch 33, M. T. Robertson 32, J. G. Forbes 31 and W. E. Robbins 31.
