FIRST TROLLEY BUSES
Long Tow To Dunedin BODIES TO BE BUILT IN CHRISTCHURCH Fifty-five of the 40-seater trolley buses for Dunedin will be built in Christchurch at the branch factory of a New Zealand motor body building firm. Nine bus chassis shipped direct from Britain to Lyttelton have, arrived in Christchurch and a start will be made on the first contract for 31 buses when the prototype has been completed and approved by the Dunedin City Council. The prototype is being built by the firm’s factory at Petone and it is expected that it will be completed within a few weeks. Metal work for the bodies of the buses will be stamped at Petone and shipped to Christchurch. The construction of the first four buses is expected to take about six weeks. After that the motor body firm hopes to turn out one bus every fortnight. When each vehicle is completed and tested, it will be towed to Dunedin, a distance of 235 miles.
