QUIET WEEK

City Fruit Markets LARGE SUPPLIES OF APPLES AVAILABLE Business generally was quiet on the city fruit marts this week. Ample supplies of apples were available, the bulk being Statesman and Jonathan varieties. Lord Wolseley cooking apples were also forward but the majority were in poor condition. There was a good demand for pears, the two varieties on hand being Winter Cole and Winter Nelis. There were no lemons on sale during the week. The New Zealand Poorman oranges, which arrived in good condition, brought high prices. A few tomatoes were also forward, but the demand was confined to choice dessert lines. Gros Colmar grapes have been meeting with a steady inquiry, as have also tree tomatoes and passion fruit. Cauliflowers, although in fairly heavy supply, sold at last week’s rates. Values firmed a little for celery, which was also in heavy supply. A shipment of pumpkins and jam melons arrived from the north early -in the week. The pumpkins met with a good inquiry, but the melons sold slowly. All other seasonable vegetables were in sufficient supply to meet the demand. Range of Prices Apples.
