NOVEL DECORATIONS
Retail Motor Trade Ball The Retail Motor Trade Association of Otago held its second Annual Ball in the Town Hall last night. All tickets had been sold and many hopeful late arrivals were turned away from the bright scene, where tall firs decked ballroom and gallery, and coloured lights and balloons were suspended from the ceiling. Inside the foyer gigantic truck wheels gave a new note in decoration: and the orchestra on the stage was flanked by petrol bowsers and stacked oil drums in bright yellow, red and green. Round the gallery hung green pennants alternating with well-known names of cars—and parked outside the Town Hall was a grand assortment of the real, solid article. Dresses were varied in colour, ranging from white and pastel shades to deep colours of red and green. Green is becoming a favourite colour. A pale leaf green taffeta was trimmed with wide shoulder band of primrose yellow; jade green was seen in both taffeta and net, and a rich deep green velvet gown showed a hint of a frothy white petticoat Unusual styles were seen in a figured taffeta, covered with a floating white net overskirt; in a honey gold striped lame made in a draped style with a side bow faced with powder blue, and in a handsome black georgette gown, trimmed with shining black sequins showing the new floating panels. Amongst those present were Mr G. T. Clarke, president of the Otago branch of the Retail Motor Trade Association and Mrs Clarke; Mr G. Herbert, chairman of the social committee and Mrs Herbert; Mr and Mrs D. Rowan; Mr and Mrs A. Watkins; Mr and Mrs S. Gray; Mr and Mrs R. Millis; Mr and Mrs S. Knowles; Mr and Mrs H. C. Osborn; and Messrs V. Parker. F. Craig, J. Brunton.
