STATE HOUSING
Fewer Contracts Available BUILDERS SEEK OTHER WORK PA AUCKLAND, May 11. Auckland builders who have been engaged on State house contracts are now seeking other avenues of work. They are doing so in case no further State house contracts are available when the present contracts are completed. In the past, these contracts have been let for 12 months ahead, and for up to 20 or 30 units. Advance contracts are now being let for six months and for half the number of units. The Housing Division is trying to give builders enough work to keep them on State house building. Some builders feel that the suspensory loan scheme cannot succeed to the extent of replacing State houses, and that the Government will have to continue building houses.
