- Arrival In Dunedin SEVENTY-THREE NEW CITIZENS • Seventy-three immigrants for the Otago district will reach Dunedin in the next few days. Seven Dutchmen from Indonesia will arrive this afternoon arid will go to the Coal Creek hydro-electric works. The _ next arrivals will be a draft of 66 immigrants from the United Kingdom, who came to New Zealand by the ship Atlantis. They will reach Dunedin on Tuesday. The party, mostly labourers and tradesmen, will include 13 women. C. K. Thomson, told the Daily Times yesterday that applications were, now being taken for married British immigrants with up to tw<? children who are nominated by friends, relatives or employees in Dunedin who will be able to provide the immigrants with accommodation on their arrival in this country. The age limit for immigrants, he added', had now been raised from 35 years to 45 years. Formerly, only single immigrants were permitted to come to New Zealand under the assisted immigration scheme. The immigrants must fall into essential work categories such as the building or allied trades. . Mr Thomson said that civilians as well as ex-servicemen and women would now be given free passage from the United Kingdom. Negotiations were in progress to arrange for the entry to New Zealand of suitable single men and women from countries outside the British Commonwealth. The migration target for the future was expected to be raised to 10,000 a year.
