PRICE OF MEALS

Controls Removed ACTION BY MINISTER PA WELLINGTON, May 11. Meals served in restaurants, milk bars and similar establishments are no longer subject to price control, the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Bowden, announced this afternoon. The Minister . said the Price Tribunal, in making this decision, which takes effect immediately, had taken into account the increased cost of, food supplies resulting from the withdrawal of subsidies. There was now a wide range of quality and service in different restaurants, and this factor made it almost impossible to impose uniform charges. In all the circumstances, the Price Tribunal had considered it best to revoke existing price orders. The Minister appealed to proprietors of refreshment rooms to confine anv adjustment of prices to the amounts necessary to reimburse them for the withdrawal of subsidy payments.
