EDINBURGH’S DEBUT
Well-bred U. Scott Colt An interetsing acceptor in the Welcome Handicap, No. 2. at Oamaru tomorrow is Edinburgh, a two-year-old colt by U. Scott from Chestnut Bingen, by Great Bingen from Belle Keller, an American-bred mare, who was imported to New Zealand in 1929 by Sir John McKenzie. • Belle Keller was a winner in America, taking a mile pacing record of 2min 7Jsec. She did stud duty in the States before coming to New Zealand in foal to Arion Guy (lmin 59£sec). Her foals there were all winners, and the best of them were Belle Lamont (2min sJsec) and a trotting colt who went 2min 52sec for a mile. To Arion Guy she left Roydon's Pride, the dam of Roydon’s Gift (dam, of Sure Gift, Sandy Duval and King’s Brigade), Certissimus, one of the greatest straight-out trotters ever raced in New Zealand, Desmond’s Pride, a good trotter and a successful sire, Resurgum and Lochinvar, a winner on the first day of the Oamaru meeting. Belle Keller did not produce anything outstanding to the New Zealand sires she was mated with, but her progeny look as though they will breed on. She is the. granddam of Shamus O’Brien, Super . Girl and others. Edinburgh was bred by Sir John McKenzie, but he will race in the interests of Mr H. E. Cook, for whom he is trained by V. Leeming.
