RADIO PROGRAMMES

Sir,—l buy the Listener each week for the programmes, and such being the case, I would like to know why the Dunedin studios make so many changes with no preliminary explanation. On Tuesday night, for instance, I was looking forward to 4YA at 10 p.m. for “A Spot of Humour.” - To my disgust some of the incessant jangly rhythm took its place till 10.30, when close-down came. Ten days ago I wished to listen in to “ London Underground,” timed in the Listener for 8.30 from 4YA. This was put on at 8 instead, and as I was listening at that time to “ Marie Antoinette ” from 4YC, I missed the “ London Underground.” For some unknown reason the same night the times, of “Marie Antoinette” and " Crowns of England ” were reversed. I rang the studio, and was told.- that the studio does not go by the Listener, but by the programme, given them by the programme manager. Why all this annoyance from our Dunedin studios, and above all, why buy the Listener?

I would also like to know why the " Empress of Destiny ” was concluded suddenly in January with no ending and no warning.—I am, etc.. Shake Them Up. r [The station manager at 4YA, Mr H. C. Trim, said that as so many points were raised in the letter it would take too much space to give an adequate reply. He would be pleased to discuss the matter if the correspondent would get in touch with him.—Ed. ODT.]
