FATAL FALL

Green Island Man’s Death INQUEST CONCLUDED Although the circumstances at first warranted an inquiry, there was no ground for suspecting foul play, or, indeed, anything other than a finding that death was the result of a fall, commented Mr J. G. Warrington, S.M.. sitting- as coroner, when the inquest into the death of James Edgar, a labourer; of Green Island, was resumed yesterday afternoon. Edgar had died in the Dunedin Hospital on April 12. Medical evidence that death had been the result of broncho-pneumonia following an extensive haemorrhage of the brain was given by Dr K- JO’Connor, house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital, and Dr B. F. Cupit assistant pathologist at the Otago Medical School. A farmer. William Joseph Tither. said he found the deceased about 5.55 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, lying on the edge of a path at the back of a crib he had occupied in Brighton road. Witness found that he was unconscious, and he sent for the police. Constable W. W. Devine, of Green Island, said there was a small patch of blood where the deceased’s head had been resting on the edge of a path. The coroner returned a verdict that, the deceased had died from bronchopneumonia following on extensive haemorrhage of the brain as the result of a fall.
