No Further Sale By Grocers In Port Chalmers
From tomorrow no bread will be handled by grocers in Port Chalmers. Giving this information to the Daily Times last night, a Port Chalmers grocer said that this move had been considered by members of the trade for some time. “We have been losing money because there is no rebate for the bread left over and it cannot be sold the next day,” he said. There would be no hardship to the residents, however, for other suppliers in the town intended carrying on as usual. There was also the possibility of a Dunedin firm setting up a depot in the area.
There is no bakehouse in Port Chalmers, the bread being supplied from Dunedin.
