CONSISTENT PACER

Grenade Due For Win Grenade, a candidate for the Invercargill Handicap on Saturday, has been racing very consistently on the southern circuit this season, his record being three wins and five placings in 11 starts. His first win was in a division of the Limehills Handicap, in which he beat Nanaimo and Otley’s Pride. He led for the last six furlongs, and won by a length. His next success was in the Otapiri Trot at Winton, when he was followed home by Golden Jack and Sierra Sue. The feature of his race was the gameness he showed at the finish. His third win, an easy one, was In the Edendale Handicap at the Wyndham meeting in March, the place-getters being Quick Trick and Bradley. Last Saturday he proved that he Is holding his form by running second to Tutta Bella in the principal race at Invercargill. Grenade is a four-year-old gelding by Blaydon from Hymenial, and is a half-brother to Clueless, Keymaster, and Landiight, who are all by Dillon Hall. Hymenial is by Worthy Bond from Lovematch, by Four Chimes from Bay Belle, by King Harold from Black Bess, by the thoroughbred Mainsail. Ringtrue Gelding True Friend, a candidate for the principal event at Oamaru on Saturday, is a four-year-old gelding by Ringtrue from Fernbrook Lass, and since going into S. Townley's stable he has been racing consistently, his 10 starts having -produced two wins and five placings. Oamaru Prospect Tekau went a good race to finish fourth in the C. L. Ayson Handicap at Oamaru last Saturday, and the Gold Bar six-year-old is not without prospects in the Bruce Memorial Handicap. Should Improve Son’s Gift, who appeared to be unlucky in not finishing closer up than third in the Papakaio Handicap at Oamaru, is a six-vear-old gelding by Gamble from Krlna, the dam of a family of winners, including Rerekohua, Ngarimu, Air Spray, Lady Spray, and Sprayman. Son s Gift is a full-brother to the three lastnamed pacers, and his trainer, W. R. Butt, should have little difficulty in placing him for an early win. Showed Speed Llndy Lou was prominent in the early running in the Trial Handicap No. 2 at Oamaru, but she did not carry her speed far enough. A three-year-old by Dillon •Hall, she is from Lyndsey, by Red Shadow from Mignonne, by Matchlight from a Hal Zolock mare. She Is one of V. Alborn’s team, and she will have her next race at Amberley on Saturday. Looked Well Scottish Greetings looked particularly well when she was harnessed up for the C. L. Ayson Handicap at Oamaru, and she ran a promising race until she was involved in the mix-up when Preston broke. It would occasion no surprise if she showed improvement before long. She is a five-year-old by U. Scott from Little Reta, a Real Guy mare from Reta s Greeting, by Peterta. Little Reta was bred and raced by the late E. C. McDermott.
