BOXER ANNOYED

Second Retirement Announced

PA WELLINGTON, May 10. “ I am heartily fed up. Not one member of the Wellington Boxing Association has even bothered to advise me that Ken Shaw was seeking a postponement- of our fight, scheduled for June 26, and I intend to notify the New Zealand Boxing Council that I am relinquishing my title. I am disgusted.” With these words, Don Mullett, the 28-year-old professional heavy-weight champion, announced his retirement today for the second time. Mullett previously threw in his crown in 1948, when ho was beaten by the Australian, Dave Sands.

Mullett said he thought the least the Wellington officials could have done would have been to tell him that Shaw, because of car trouble, wanted a further delay in the proposed match. Mullett also said lie had heard nothing from Australia about the fight he was seeking with Sands for the heavyweight championship of Australia and New Zealand. “ I don’t expect I will.” he said, “so I have decided to give the game best.” Mullett added that this decision to retire had been forced on him owing to a dearth of opponents.
