“CAPTAIN OF GANG”

Telephone Message To Newspaper PA AUCKLAND. May 10.

Describing himself as “ captain of a gang of four.” a man telephoned the New Zealand Herald shortly after 9 o’clock tonight and said he had just “ done an assault and robbery at Mount Roskill.” The man added: “We did a bag-snatching earlier tonight in Remuera. I will probably ring you again before 11 o’clock, because we are going to do another job.” About 10 o’clock the same man rang the Herald again and said he had forgotten earlier to mention that he had done “ a Parnell job.” He was apparently referring to an incident in which Mrs E. F. Stock, of 42 St. George’s Bay road, had her handbag snatched by a man while she was walking up St. George’s Bay road late on Monday night. After referring to this incident, the' man informed the Herald that “in about 10 minutes' time we are going to do a job in Newmarket.” Up to a late hour no report had been received of any crime in Newmarket.
