Wool Sales In Australia
Rec. 11 p.m. MELBOURNE, May 9. Competition was keen and general at the Melbourne wool sales today, when 6800 bales were offered. There was a total clearance. Prices showed a further hardening tendency on the improved rates established yesterday, although late-season offerings were fairly representative. Competition was keen from the Continent at the Sydney wool sales today, and there was good support from Britain and Russia Of the 9296 bales of ordinary wool offered, 9079 were sold, plus 272 from a previous sale and 2357 bales of skin wools. The market was very firm, with a further upward tendency except for short carbonising lines, which remained firm at yesterday’s rates. The top price was 117Jd for 11 bales of greasy merino 64's light burr.
