“A FAIR TRIAL”

New Restrictions DECISION OF POWER COMMITTEE The Dunedin Power Restrictions Advisory Committee, which met yesterday, decided to impose no further restrictions this week. "The present cuts must be given a fair trial before any further action is taken,’’ the Daily Times was informed in an official statement. “The committee, obviously, does not desire to cut out one more unit of electricity than is necessary.” The committee decided, “in fairness to the consumers,” that it would not meet for another fortnight. In the meantime, a circular will be addressed to every consumer in the Dunedin supply area urging a greater saving of power and enumerating the various ways in which this can be done. Dunedin began this power-saving week by exceeding the quota on Monday by 9.62 per cent. The allocation for this week in the Dunedin area is 3,571,354 units. The number of units used on Monday was 588,290 which was 51,632 in excess of the quota for the day. The level of Lake Mahinerangi yesterday morning was 83ft 9in—a fall of two inches in 24 hours. Attention was recently drawn by the Daily Times to the fact that the electricity used in building the Nos. 3 and 4 power stations at Waipori had to be provided from the Dunedin quota. Referring to this, the committee gave the Daily Times a statement yesterday. “ Recently there has been a discussion on the number of units used by the Waipori construction works,” it was stated. “This has been looked into fully, and the number of units used is so small that it cannot in any way affect the cuts imposed in Dunedin.”
