PRIMARY PRODUCTION
First Meeting Of Advisory Committee MINISTER GRATIFIED PA WELLINGTON, May 9. The Primary Production AdvisoryCommittee, recently established .to investigate ways and means of increasing farm production, held its first meeting on Thursday last, stated the Minister of Agriculture, Mr, Holyoake, today. This committee is composed of leaders of Federated Farmers, production boards and the Dairy Products Marketing Commission, together with interested State departments, and is assisted by a Working Committee comprised of technical officers of these various organisations. At this initial meeting the main matters discussed related to the marketing of produce, transport difficulties, farm labour and rural housing problems, supplies of fertiliser, and methods of achieving increases in farm production. The Minister stated that •'he was gratified to find a large measure of agreement on most of the major items, although decision will, of course, have to be deferred until the representatives have had an opportunity of discussing the details with their organisations. “ I am more than pleased with the progress made,” said Mr Holyoake, “and I feel sure that as the work of the committee progresses, and greater clarification of the problems facing primary producers is achieved, the Government will be in a position to take those steps which by common consent should lead to attaining our objective of bringing about a substantial increase in primary production. I would like to take this opportunity of expressing my appreciation of the spirit of co-operation shown by the various organisations at this initial meeting of the committee, and I feel sure that continuation of such unity of purpose cannot fail to bring about 'the desired results.”
